©Gill Billington. All rights reserved. The Black Friar British pub or bar is one of the famous London landmarks, serving a large variety of ales and spirits as well as meals in the restaurant. It was built in 1905 on the site of a former Dominican Friary which existed from 1279 to 1539.
Following that the site became the Parliament Chamber and it is believed that Emperor Charles V, the Papal Magistrate and Henry Vlll's court sat here during the dissolution of Henry Vlll's marriage to Catherine of Aragon in 1532.
