©Gill Billington. All rights reserved. Homeward Bound is an image of Spitfires, the British fighter planes used in WW2, flying over the white cliffs of Dover. A very evocative sight. A reminder that on D-Day, 6th June 1944 so many young men went to Normandy to try to stop the Nazi occupation of Europe and yet so few returned.
Of the 10,000 casualties, 4,414 died. Including British, US, and Canadian young men and allied pilots and troops from Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Norway, Rhodesia and Poland.
