©Gill Billington. All rights reserved. These funky fungi were growing on a fallen tree log in a woodland. There really is beauty in decay. The sky photographed in black and white during the golden hour just after sunrise with the tree fungus on the textured bark in close up gives a surreal look to this image.
With the help of Stefan Buczacki, an author and gardening and natural history expert, I have found out it is called Polyporus squamosus which is a basidiomycete bracket fungus commonly called Dryad's saddle or Pheasant's back mushroom.
