In the foreground is the fountain that is part of the base of the Queen Victoria Memorial, a wonderful bronze and marble monument which is 82 ft (25 metres) tall.

This side of the fountain is a large bronze sculpture of a soldier with helmet and sword representing military power with a woman with sea shells in her hair and holding a ship protectively in her arms to represent naval power.
